Boxed
Boxed is a collaboration between myself and artist Tony Porto.
We created a 3-d piece, then swapped our projects with the intention (and permission) to use each other’s work to spark something new. Some people say this is brave, but we thought it was exciting and creative. Our only guideline was that we had to have fun.
I gave Tony the wood chunks and cubes I’d formed out of stiffened chiffon fabric printed with my patterns. He created this sculpture, inspired by cubes, and added his own whimsy.
A magnet was added to one of the fabric cubes that allowed it to spin and float. Very dreamy!
The beauty of collaboration is that it sparks new ideas and conversations about art—the process, the aesthetics, and how art fits into our lives. From this experience our ideas are going to continue to evolve.
